2. It doesn't happen too often, but there are times when the title of a jazz album and the material within interface perfectly. Hence The Steamer, where Stan Getz joined forces with a super West Coast-based rhythm section to produce some truly steaming music. "Blues for Mary Jane" is remarkable; for all of the straight-ahead heat generated by the rhythm section, Getz is incredibly relaxed, poised.

6. May 15,  · Stan Getz has one of the greatest swing-feels of all time! His time was awesome. I love just about everything he played but my favorites are People Time (duo w/Kenny Barron get the full box set for a real treat), The Dolphin, Stan Getz and the Oscar .

7. Getz/Gilberto is the standard for bossas, so that's a must. I'd encourage you to also look for Stan Getz & Bill Evans, as well as Stan Getz Plays. The latter pretty much shows off his solo chops, while the former is more of an interplay between the two. I'm a big fan of both.
